A Land of Tibet

                                                                                                  *

Working on Tara Drolma's ears.  These of course are attuned to the cries of suffering of all beings everywhere especially Tibet!  This reminds me. I've bought a movie called "Cry of the Snow Lion" . I haven't seen it yet but it is a highly recommended documentary film.  Anyway, it's a bit tricky getting both sides to look the same...

As on this side here the modelling is much more pronounced. The shadowed deeper areas  are called the "darks" as I remember. Sculpture is actually three dimensional painting with light and shadow really as I may have mentioned. I've been pushing about the clay more vigorously here and the individual forms need to blend together more. A bit of work on both to get the ears closer in appearance and some  smoothing of the outside curvature will help. There's more work on the head at the base of the ears which I have to figure out yet.

Working on the back...

This is harder for me to model so I'm smoothing things out a bit too much.  Generally the back changes  depending on the movements of the arm as they orient the scapula. You can see the platform is  constructed fairly simply. I'm going to try to raise up the sculpture another section then continue work. It will be somewhat easier when the actual torso orientation and arm positions are worked out. I've made the drawing from last week a bit larger and I've a few more drawings to bring us later.
